Charlie-Fuzz

Charlie-Fuzz

The CHARLIE from Red Ant is a hybrid silicon-germanium fuzz pedal inspired by the the now very rare and appreciated fuzz/distortion INTERFAX HARMONIC PERCOLATOR HP-1. This guitar effect was developed in Milwaukee, USA, in 1970 and its spiritual father was instrument and studio equipment repairman Ed Giese. The secret of its unique sound lies primarily in its specific involvement and use of the advantages of both germanium and silicon transistors. Over the years the effect has been modified by many designers, the most famous of whom is probably Steve Albini. The CHARLIE sticks more or less to the original design with the addition of clipping diodes which are silicon instead of the original germanium. This is typical modification results in higher output level, better signal to noise ratio and a more “open” sounding pedal. The HARMONICS and BALANCE controls have been renamed DRIVE and LEVEL.

It is powered from a standard 9-volt power supply (9-10 V,30-500 mA, 2.1mm center negative adapter). Of course, true bypass switching, reverse polarity protection, red status LED and the use of quality components (alpha switch, amphenol connectors, alpha potentiometers, wima, epcos, samwha, nichicon, elna capacitors, matching wiring, etc.).
